New York Giants 37 Cleveland Browns 34

by Derek Johnson on Monday, August 18th, 2008

Fueled by three Domenik Hixon touchdowns in the first quarter alone, the New York Giants defeated the Cleveland Browns 37 to 34, giving the defending Super Bowl champions their first win of the preseason. Hixon caught 11 and 24-yard touchdown passes from Eli Manning and returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown.

The Browns, however, didn’t give up as third-string QB Ken Dorsey led his team on two drives that both resulted in scores. The first Dorsey drive led to a 44-yard field goal by Jason Reda, and the second Dorsey drive resulted in a 8-yard touchdown pass from Dorsey to Lance Leggett. However, the Giants would run the ball out in the last two minutes of the game, but not before Kay-Jay Harris left the game on a cart with an ankle injury.

The Giants had Eli Manning, David Carr, and Anthony Wright as quarterbacks for this game. Manning completed 4 of 7 passes for 52 yards and the two touchdowns to Hixon. Carr went 7-for-14 for 53 yards while Wright went 4-of-8 for 34 yards, throwing one interception.

For the Browns, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, and Ken Dorsey stood behind the center before their offensive plays. Anderson completed 4 of 10 passes for 20 yards. Quinn went 7-for-12 for 124 yards and one touchdown while Dorsey went 9-of-11 for 143 yards and one touchdown.
