Mats Sundin has an evil twin!?!?!?

Yesterday I saw my article, The Mats Sundin Soap Opera, was linked to some article in NHL Fanhouse. I got to say, that was the most hilarious article I have ever read. Not only did the article make no sense whatsoever, he goes from a Chris Crocker like version of “LEAVE MATS SUNDIN ALONE!!!” to “He will play in Vancouver so take that.” Maybe they know something we do not, but who would want to play in Vancouver especially with Owners exactly like the Toronto Maple Leafs, non-knowledgeable hockey people that only care about making money. Plus how can you be making fun of other writers while you are addressing the situation yourself? Freedom of speech bud, freedom of speech. If you want to read the article here it is so you can get a few laughs.

Now to the main part of the article which involves the other article. At one point, they mentioned my article. This was what was said:

“Mike Consentino of Sports Full Circle compares this to a “Soap Opera”, and says Sundin will look worse than Brett Favre. If this is a “Soap Opera”, where are the lurid affairs, shower scenes, and evil twins?”

I have 2 problems with this:

1) They spelled my last name wrong. The mafia is being sent as I write.

2) Maybe to them it seemed to be a funny joke at the time and I will admit that was a bit clever, but if you are reading this, to your dismay buddy, I have some plot twists that I plan to spoil starting…NOW!!!

First off the lurid affair. Now this is a possibility or not depending on the fact IF (I even bolded it out for you bud) Sundin decides to play. Now just for argument’s sake he signs a 2-year $13 million deal with the Montreal Canadiens. Now this is great for Sundin because he finally will get his shot at the Cup but Mats Sundin is cheating on someone, Toronto Maple Leaf fans. Sundin going from a long serving captain to a division rival is like the ultimate betrayal to a hockey standpoint. I have watched my fair share of Leaf games though, Sundin does not owe the fans anything and does not need to come back, he was a solid contributor to the team for 13 years what more can you ask. So Sundin has the right to cheat on them…I mean play for any team he wants.

The 2nd thing I was asked for was the shower scene. Sorry that one will not happen. I think I speak for the vast majority who do not want to see Mats Sundin nude in a shower. What kind of sick mind do you have mentioning that? But a shower scene for his girlfriend would be great! Alright, next.

The 3rd and final thing he asked was where was the evil twin. Now even though Pats Sundin would be an awesome evil twin, if he existed, there is a player that is being just as indecisive as Sundin. He too was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques and has also been a long serving captain. I am talking about the Colorado Avalnche’s Joe Sakic.

Now Joe has also been deciding on whether or not to retire for the past month also. Joe has been with the Quebec/Colorado franchise since he was drafted by the team, 15th overall, in 1987. Joe was still very young after he was appointed the captaincy for Quebec. He was the captain for a couple of horrid teams in Quebec, but a franchise relocation and an addition of Patrick Roy later, Sakic has endured mighty success with the Avalanche winning 2 Cups in 96′ and 01′.

Sakic has his own share of trophies like the Conn Smythe, Hart, Lester B. Pearson, Lady Byng and an olympic gold medal to go with his 2 Stanley Cup rings.

Along with the impressive list of trophies there are career stats like 623 goals and 1006 assists for 1629 points in 1363 games which blows Mats Sundin’s numbers out of the water (555 goals, 766 assists, 1321 points in 1301 games).

Sakic though is now 39, around the time most player do call it quits. Some people believe thatr Sakic will want to play two more years so he can be captain of the Canadian National team when the olympics take place in Vancouver, but remember, the guy just came off a injury filled season, injuries are harder to recover from when you are older. No other team will have a chance at him anyways, it is either Colorado or nothing for Joe Sakic.

Now obviously Joe Sakic is the better player than Mats Sundin and Joe will make the Hall-of-Fame unless the idiots on the decision board think otherwise (Glenn Anderson anyone?). But if Sakic is the better player of the two and is in the exact same position as Mats Sundin, why does Joe Sakic go under the radar?

Some people will blame the media since the media attention in Toronto is way more intense than it is in Colorado but I think Joe Sakic is left alone out of respect by hockey fans in general. Sakic is an accomplished player with with many successes, Sundin not so much. It is really hard to win the hearts of hockey fans when you have never won a Stanley Cup and the only exception I can think of right now to that is Ray Bourque who did eventually get his Stanley Cup, with Joe Sakic’s Colorado Avalanche. Weird how these things fall into place, eh?

Also give the fact that Joe Sakic is a Canadian boy so fans would know more about Sakic’s junior career way better than someone from Sweeden, Sundin.

But the media can be put to blame too. They practically do have no lives in Toronto always trying to dig out a story in the dirtiest ways possible (Steve Simmons anyone?). But the fact that Sakic can get away from being indecisive and Sundin cannot makes Joe Sakic Mats Sundin’s evil twin by making Mats Sundin a media scapegoat.

Right now it is the sooner the better for Mats Sundin decision. That way everyone does not keep going on and on about what he will do, where he will play, or what type of pancakes he has in the morning for that matter. I still believe Sundin should retire, but I have a gut feeling that he feels he has something to prove and will not take any contract offered to him by Toronto or Vancouver. He will go to a contender so deal with it but not to one named the Detroit Red Wings. I still say Mats can still play around with the clock but he should have a decision made by mid-August or else this situation could get ugly.

As for Sakic, if he plays, great, if he retires, great. Joe Sakic has more freedom with the media than Mats Sundin has right now and can do whatever he wants. I would prefer not to give Sakic a timeline but if I did he either decides mid-September, or pulls a Scot Niedermeyer. Apparently though I saw an article that crossed my path that I really did not like regarding the Joe Sakic retirement possibility. I mean he is saying Sakic will retire because of Forsberg’s foot injury. How does someone else’s injury make you retire? Plus he takes a stab at Avalanche fans which I am completely against since people have the right to cheer for the team they want. Here is that article for laughs:

Now with the spoilers out of the way, the curtain can finally close on The Mats Sundin Soap Opera.

  1. I was on Yahoo and found your blog. Read a few of your other posts. Good work. I am looking forward to reading more from you in the future.

  2. One more thing about the first article you mentioned: It was kinda like Steve Dangle’s intellectually dishonest “Shut up about Mats Sundin!” video in that I noticed both hailed Mats Sundin as their God or something:

Steve Dangle: “He is awesome. And nobody can tell me anything different…He has done everything in his power…He hits too…and he’s a freakin UN ambassador!…Mats Sundin had Ladislav Kohn!”

Oh yeah? Well how about the time when Mats Sundin went down with an eye injury in 2002, forcing players like Jonas Hoglund and Alyn McCauley to steer the Leafs ship? And they made it to the ECF, which Sundin himself could never lead the team to!

He has done everything…yeah…except WIN A STANLEY CUP LET ALONE A CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL!

He hits too? Oh give me a break! Sundin takes more penalties than Ovechkin who will unleash 100x as many hits as Sundin will probably ever unleash in his career.

UN ambassador? Wikipedia has nothing about him being an ambassador. Now that just destroys your argument right there with that fallacious remark.

And Ladislav Kohn? What is that Swedish for? Gary Roberts? Swahili for Alexander Mogilny? Maybe Norwegian for Brian Leetch? Gimme a break the Leafs got those key players to add to Sundin’s line, and yet Sundin’s heart was never like any superstar’s heart to do anything past the Conference Semifinals.

    Jes Golbez:

“After two weeks of hard deliberating and consultation with family and friends, superstar Mats Sundin decided to have blueberry pancakes for breakfast. This comes as a shock to media and ex-teammates, who figured Sundin for a apple and cinnamon kinda guy.” Okay is this hockey or free pancakes day at IHOP? Surely there is a better way to grab others’ attention, and it sure ain’t by making their readers hungry and distracted from the topic at hand.

“Sundin is one of the grittiest players in the entire league!” GRITTIEST??? How can you call a captain who doesn’t hit gritty??? That’s as bad as saying Drew Bledsoe would have done better than what Tony Romo did for the Cowboys this past season.

“I hope Mats Sundin decides to call a press conference tomorrow, just to tell the mediots that he’ll need another month to make a decision on his future. Wouldn’t that just give those overweight media morons fits?” Surely someone had to be on the wrong side of the rainbow to be making comments disparaging to the media…which he is USING to convey his arguments.

“If you were in Mats Sundin’s position in your real walk of life (lawyer, concrete pourer, Subway Sandwich Artist, etc), wouldn’t you take the time to make the best decision for your happiness and your family? Why is it that people in the hockey world think they deserve a quick decision from any particular player? Why should Sundin not have the luxury of time to do whatever the damn well he pleases?” The fact at hand is not that he is taking the time to decide, but that he is taking TOO much time! That is absolutely unacceptable especially from a professional hockey player. I mean, what has he been doing this past month? Playing Halo 2 on XBOX LIVE half naked on his living room couch? Or maybe calling up some buddies to play some poker? Seriously it’s NOT too hard to make a decision. That’s why there’s this thing called a DEADLINE, and as we’ve seen in the Manny Ramirez story, you can’t prolong your decisions like he did with the Marlins.

“Mats Sundin does not owe you, me, or the media anything.” I bet you at the very least you owe the media an apology after calling them mediots and overweight moron fits. Come on what kind of class does this show? That’s four times (maybe five) as bad as Flyers fans chanting “Fuck Ovechkin!” and “Crosby sucks!”

“The longer Mats waits, the longer he has to see which team fits in his ideal vision of where to play.” And the longer Mats waits, the longer his brain rots in trying to decide, thus prolonging the wait even longer. By the time he finally makes a decision, humans will have successfully built a supercomputer that would exceed the power of the human RACE! And that’s not supposed to happen for probably another thirty years.

“Sundin doesn’t need the NHL, nor does he need the money. Sundin could very well retire to a comfortable life of fishing and meatball eating with no regrets.” And so now you come to this remark about leisure time? When he might as well have been doing these activities during this period of waiting? Well so much for that. This period of waiting might really have been a period of secret retirement.

“As a Canucks fan, I really do want Sundin to sign with my hometown club, and I wish he would do it soon.” And you criticized everyone for bugging Mats Sundin about not signing with a team as soon as possible! And here you say you want him to be a Canuck SOON? Make up your mind! You want him to sign NOW? later? or possibly NEVER?

  3. There could be a shower scene if Sundin decided to shower. My only knowledge of Sundin’s play, by the way, are his high ratings in backyard hockey.
