A Little Game of Throw and Cat

The United States Softball Team extended their Olympic winning streak to 16 games as they defeated the Australian Softball team by a score of 3 to 0. Most notable about that game is American pitcher Cat Osterman pitching a no-hitter, striking out the side in the 7th and final inning. Osterman became only the second American pitcher to throw a no-hitter in an Olympic game.

After the game, Osterman said, “Personally once I got settled after the third inning, I felt really good. The team was tested today and we really came through. It was nice to see the team get on base and score. We need to keep at this pace throughout the Games, and I am excited about what we can accomplish.” Cat gave up two walks, but threw 13 strikeouts in the game as she helped the US team earn their 14th shutout during the 16-game winning streak.

Australian pitcher Tanya Harding pitched 4 innings of shutout softball before giving up an RBI single to Natasha Watley in the bottom of the 5th inning. As if that wasn’t enough, Crystl Bustos, the most feared hitter in softball, blasted a two-run home run in the 6th inning.
