Who’s making the Playoffs? Part 3

We have already analyzed the Yankees and Mets, and Cubs and White Sox, to see whether or not they would make the playoffs. Now, we are going back to the AL East and seeing if we think the Boston Red Sox, the defending champions, are going to make the play offs again.

In the beginning of the year, it was predicted by many that the Red Sox would definitely make the play offs, but now, the Rays are looking really good this year, as they come off fresh of a sweep of the Red Sox, and now lead them by 3.5 games. The Red Sox have a 2 game lead in the Wild Card race over the Minnesota Twins. In addition, the Red Sox have been horrible on the road, sporting a 19-27 record. However, at Fenway park, the Red Sox boast a 31-10 record.

The Red Sox, as always, have a very powerful lineup led by the likes of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, Ortiz is fighting various injuries, and he won’t be playing in the All Star game. However, when Ortiz is going well, he is a fearsome hitter. In addition, the Red Sox have other good hitters such as Dustin Pedroia, J.D. Drew, Kevin Youkilis, and Mike Lowell.

Their pitching staff is led by Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Tim Wakefield, Josh Lester, and Josh Masterson. All of these pitchers are pretty good and Matsuzaka is 9-1 with a 3.12 ERA. It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox fare at Yankee Stadium for a 4 game match this weekend.

Until then, do you guys believe the Red Sox can make the play offs again this year?
