The Best Players in the NFL: Players 20-16

We already covered the top players, 25-21, and players 20 through 16 are up today. Let’s get started.

20. Jared Allen; Defensive End, Minnesota Vikings

Jared Allen is one of the best defensive ends in the NFL. He led the NFL last year with 15.5 sacks, while only playing in 14 games. He also had 3 forced fumbles last year, and 64 tackles, showing he was more than capable of stopping the run.

19. Reggie Wayne; Wide Receiver, Indianapolis Colts

Wayne showed that in Marvin Harrison’s absence, he was a viable number one wide receiver. He led the league with 1,510 receiving yards, and also had 10 touchdowns and 104 catches. If Harrison is not what he used to be, Wayne may be forced to be the number one receiver, a change the Colts should accept considering Wayne’s skill and abilities.

18. Charles Woodson; Cornerback, Green Bay Packers

Woodson had 4 interceptions and 63 tackles last year, but those numbers do not express his pedigree as an NFL cornerback. Woodson is great in coverage and would be a great addition to any secondary.

17. Nnamdi Asomugha; Cornerback, Oakland Raiders

From former Raider cornerback, to current Raider cornerback, Asomugha is better. He had only 1 interception and 34 tackles last year in a down year, but he is still a shutdown corner, shown by his interceptions int eh 2006 season.

16. Steve Smith; Wide Receiver, Carolina Panthers

Smith is one of the smallest guys in the game with the biggest heart. He had 87 catches and 1,002 yards last year, and could have done better if he had better quarterback play.

Players 15-11 tomorrow.

I love the Mets and Jets more than anything, but I'm a Net and Ranger fan too. From East Brunswick, New Jersey, I run (a lot) and despite my issues with the NBA, I prefer playing basketball to any other sport. None of my teams have won a championship I can remember, and if it doesn't get better soon, I may have to run the teams myself.
