Rumor: Giants and Brewers in trade talks for Durham and Taschner

Rumor has it that the Brewers and Giants were set to complete a trade today. Such a trade would have some impact on both teams, mostly Brewers as they look to make a move into playoff contention. This deal would send Giant’s second basemen Ray Durham and maybe lefty reliever Jack Taschner to the Brewers. The Giants would receive a few players including Darren Ford a minor leaguer, and lefty Steve Hammond, also a minor leaguer.

Unfortunately, Doug Melvin didn’t have anything to say earlier today about these trade rumors. The Giants and Brewers are playing right now, in San Francisco. Durham is a pretty good second basemen as he is batting .293, with a .385 OBP, and would probably platoon with current second basemen Rickie Weeks. Durham is in the second year of his 2 year contract, and the Brewers would have to pay $3 million for the rest of the season, and Durham would have to approve of any trades.

The other part of the trade, receiving lefty Taschner would help solidify a Brewers bullpen. He has a pretty good 3.21 ERA this season. Stay tuned for official announced that this deal has taken place.

Editors note: This deal has been completed, stay tuned for further reaction.
